OUCH... Surgery...

Since Ethan started daycare in January, he had been sick off and on until May.  Poor guy seemed to live those months with a runny and stuffy nose.  In February he had a double ear infection.  The infection went away, but the fluid stayed.  We saw an ENT in May and he determined that Ethan needed the fluid surgically drained and ear tubes put in.  *TEAR*

His surgery was June 28th. I was a complete wreck the weeks working up to his surgery.  Here he is in his pre-op room, playing with Nana.  The room was set up very comfortable with lots of toys, wagon and Disney Jr on TV.  It's pretty cool, they have a staff member there whose job is specifically to keep the children calm.  When Ethan started fussing because the nurse put the ID bracelet on his ankle, a lady came in with even more toys and bubbles.  Ethan was much happier.

When it was surgery time, the nurse came into his room, swooped him up and carried him out of the room to the OR.  It happened all too quickly and I was left numb. Literally like 20 seconds. I didn't have the opportunity to give him a kiss goodbye.

Surgery was fast, thank goodness. Recovery was difficult...watching Ethan come out of the anesthesia was awful.  I cried and cried.  He was so agitated.

On the car ride home, Ethan fell asleep and slept for over 2 hours. When he woke up, he was back to his usual self.  Recovery has been good, he is not complaining that his ears hurt. He did amazing.  What a stud.
